I founded a large services business called TOPS in Mumbai, India in 1992. What started as a modest 3 employee firm, slowly grew to become the largest security brand in India. At its peak, the company employed more than 97,000 people, operated from 200 offices across seven countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, had revenues of £140 Mn and an enterprise valuation of £270 Mn. Between 2015 and 2022, I faced the most challenging years of my entrepreneurial journey. To support my UK business, I provided my personal guarantee for a working capital loan. The UK business was sold in 2016 but the bank didn't realise its debt from the sale. In 2021, the bank took my Indian business into administration, and seized all my assets, including my personal properties in London and Mumbai. Everything I had painstakingly built brick by brick, came crashing down in front of my eyes!
