About Ritu Versha

Journalist | Traveler | LogophileI started my career in 2017 as an intern with the Caravan Magazine, following a bachelor in mass communication and video production from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. I then moved to Hyderabad to work as a crime reporter with Deccan Chronicle. Though I always wanted to do newspapering in Hindi heartland, so I moved back to my hometown (in Bihar) where I started working as a social media editor for NewsCentral24x7. In four months, I was made an Associate Editor, managing and heading news operations for both English and Hindi websites. I then worked as a Producer-Correspondent at Go News India. As my colleagues moved to the safety of their homes amid the pandemic, I single-handedly led the English Desk. I also worked as an Associate Editor at India Today's digital arm 'NewsMo' and headed shifts at Press Trust of India as Chief Sub-editor. Presently, I am a Multimedia Producer at NDTV Convergence.I'm occasionally asked if I can recall the moment when I knew I wanted to be a reporter. One blinding flash occurs: I never loved physics though I loved going for lessons to my tutor's house just to watch BBC News. His son used to watch the BBC news at that particular time. Maybe it was because of the timing, I never concentrated on physics but news. I knew I would like to work in broadcasting one day.However, as I grew up, I had a shift towards print journalism and have experience working as a reporter for as many as four publications. My maxim has been, "When I say journalism, the world gets better, I get better."I am the epitome of workaholism and inquisitiveness, often thinking of how I can free up more time to work or become stressed if I am proscribed from working, and how I badly want to make visible what, without me, might perhaps never have been seen. I hate living indoors. I am so passionate about travelling that if given a chance, I would be just as happy to go outdoors for the fieldwork which I have never shied from. This has also been the reason behind my joining journalism.Languages enthral me because nothing makes a language richer than its people travelling around the world and then writing about it.
