About River Marquez

Hello! Thanks for visiting my LinkedIn. It's a pleasure to meet and connect with you.My passion is social impact, tackling the biggest problems with a level head and channeling my energy into solving those problems. Much of my focus has been on the heavy issues: health care, mental health, homelessness, the politicization of climate action, equity for BIPOC, and advocacy work that encompasses all of that. It has been my pleasure to work in communications, marketing and advertising for social impact. My work has taken me through award-winning companies across many areas of the communications field. I have been able to take a hands-on approach working with clients in different sectors, from federal, state, and local government organizations to small businesses, nonprofits, and national associations. I'm currently working in federal consulting, focusing on health care, education, and labor.I recently finished my MA in Strategic Communication from American University in Washington, DC. My areas of study were on U.S. media coverage of foreign affairs, government and media relations, health and technology communication. My thesis explored the intersection between artificial intelligence fields, their entertainment media portrayals, and real-world news media coverage. It was fascinating to research how A.I. impacts virtually every field in some way, and that impact is only growing.I graduated cum laude from the University of New Mexico with a BA in journalism & mass communication in the spring of 2019. While I was at UNM, I was fortunate enough to be a UNM Presidential Scholar and a National Hispanic Merit Scholar honoree. I had the opportunity to start college early on. If that taught me one thing, it's the value of thinking on your feet.
