As a director and Tūhono, I work across our Manaaki, Tinana and Whānau spaces at Whānau Whanake a whānau ora enterprise of RCG Group 2010 Ltd. My values and leadership, generosity and mana reflect the essence of Whānau Whanake and his eclectic set of skills from working in the Royal New Zealand Navy for eight years, and over 20 years with Fire and Emergency NZ mean he can connect with people from all walks of life. With almost 20 years’ experience managing his own chronic health, Riwai understands the health sector can be challenging to navigate. He has an innate ability to problem solve at speed and his strength is in uplifting the mana of the people he works with. His passion is in creating inclusive environments for whānau to thrive, connect to whenua and community, and achieve things they didn’t think possible.

Tūhono Covid-19 ResponseRcg Group (2010) Ltd Mar 2020 - PresentFollowing the first COVID-19 Lockdown RCG Group (2010) Ltd pivoted to a Tūhono Outreach that supported whānau to navigate the effects of COVID-19. In February 2022 the team pivoited to support MSD with a kaupapa Māori response to the dedicated Community Connection service. Our Tūhono Outreach takes an active approach to ensuring people needing help are able to access information, support and services across multiple government agencies and service providers. We currently support 28 ethinicities across the south-west of Ōtautahi with in community and bedside support. The Tūhono Outreach support the welfare needs of individuals and whānau to keep them safe while isolating in the community. tūhono navigate and connect individuals and whānau to various services available during and in transition from self-isolation. The Whānau Whanake focus and role specific to Community Connector contract is to ensure smooth execution of a six day service that delivers short term and follow up interventions for whānau referred for MSD Community Connector Support or Respiratory Inpatient transition to home and refers on to appropriate community referrals.

Tūhono Kori TinanaRcg Group (2010) Ltd Oct 2016 - PresentAs part of the kori tinana | group exercise team. We are responsible for connecting whānau to physical activity in a group setting. Sine 2018 we have also encouraged whānau with chronic health and disability to take part in events including half Marathons and IronMāori. Success is when we encourage one person off their couch into meaningful activity that changes their state of wellbeing for a better future for themselves and the next generations.

Lead Tūhono Tane WhanakeRcg Group (2010) Ltd Jan 2012 - PresentChristchurchTāne Whanake is a Māori led kaupapa that connects tāne to tāne (men to men( in a peer to peer approach. Our tūhono saw gaps for tāne in positions of leadership who following a decade of disasters felt the burden of fixing problems and providing for whānau during the crisis. It was important to create an environments for a group of like minds to come together. Through a coffee, walk, watch a game, or trying a new activity was important for overall wellbeing. The Tūhono is responsibile for co-ordinating opportunities, keeping the group updated and checking in regularly with those involved. Regular events create a proactive, fun and inclusive environment. This started as two friends reaching out after the Christchurch Earthquakes and now supports over 100 who come and go as required. Based on the kaupapa of manaakitanga, delivery is by whānau, for whānau. The mission is to continue to ensure that no one is left behind and that whānau are supported to find the answers within themselves and become self-managing.

We apply a Whānau Ora framework, Enabling Good life principles approach to connect whānau and tangata whāikaha to what they need to live well, appreciate their abilities and participate fully in their communities.
