Watch out, world! A New You incoming.→ you learned about the right protein shake→ you learned about the importance of warming up→ you learned about the proper technique for pullupsThen what?The real answer: nothing.You will do nothing with what you learned.→ You’ll get bored.→ You’ll forget about it.→ You won’t implement it.→ You won’t build a new habit.You know how I know?Because it was the same for me.So I set out to understand why I don’t follow through on promises that I make to myself. I looked at a ton of research on why, despite our best intentions, we don’t stick to new habits for long. Turns out it’s because our brains are wired for:- instant gratification- the immediate- the NOWUnfortunately, things like saving for retirement, losing weight, and quitting smoking (or building any habit) are all long games.And humans are not programmed for long games.We don’t have a system.We rely on willpower to stick to our goals.
