The one thing my 5+ years of experience have taught me, is that copywriting is less about writing and more on problem solving. And the industry I am currently working at is never short on problems for me to solve. As one of Indonesia's biggest and oldest media network, Harian Kompas is known for its non-biased reports and proper use of Indonesian grammar. Just these two traits put such a high bar for any copywriter to reach. Fortunately, time is forgiving and I'm able to learn as much as I can while working full-time as a beginner copywriter 5+ years ago. For me, copywriting provides a gateway to a much broader concept that is marketing. The basics of long-form articles made to sell products, the making of press release, things to know when writing a script, what headlines to put on a digital campaign, etc. I've even learned how to direct an ad video (it's just a one-time thing, though)! Copywriting even lets me explore my other talents. Never in my life would I consider teaching a passion of mine. Alas, after being invited by my juniors at Universitas Negeri Jakarta to became a speaker in one of their journalistic seminars in 2023, I have since convinced myself that teaching may be a legitimate career path. From then on, I also had the privilege to be invited by Badan Bahasa Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi to talk about copywriting for media social in one of their private events.Oh, and I'm pretty decent with my English, too. I never had the chance to write in English professionally. So I tried to "stay in shape" by writing mini articles about NBA basketball, which you can find on my Medium page.
