I have many years experience in the historic preservation field, and am currently an estimator with a historic restoration contractor.I was a Technical Preservation Services Manager with Ohio's State Historic Preservation Office for many years, where I reviewed tax credit projects to ensure that they met the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. That role is similar to work undertaken at a local government planning department. My prior experience was working in architecture firms on restoration and rehabilitation projects, and independent consulting.I have a MA in Conservation Studies (Historic Buildings) from the University of York (UK), and I studied towards a M.Arch at Boston Architectural Center and have a BS in Business Administration and an AAS in Architectural Technology. I have used AutoCAD, Microstation and Revit. My MA degree was very hands-on and included an introductory “Lime Week” where I applied a variety of lime based conservation techniques at an open air folk museum in Yorkshire. Many of the modules at York dealt specifically with the conservation of building materials. I also had a summer work placement at York Minster Stoneyard where I carved a lion's head out of limestone and practiced wood joinery. I have been a peer reviewer for the “APT Journal” of the Association for Preservation Technology and a member of DOCOMOMO (preserving modernist architecture).
