Profile bio

About Robert Butler

I was that kid! The electronic hobbyist preparing to service a new generation of technology built on ICs and Microprocessors. The first to service computers made for the desktop. Over the years my passion and experience led me to service computers that required a lot more space and required liquid cooling.I was apart of the generation that set the standard for customer service. When the customer called with an issue, you responded with a solution. If it was hardware, you fixed it. If it was software, you patched it. If the customer required more training, you trained them. I was expected to be the customer’s sole point of contact. So I had to do it all, backed by a tremendous amount of technical resources, and the support of many senior engineers.Today, I still strive to deliver the highest degree of customer satisfaction, albeit with different tools and resources. I am mostly a Systems Administrator, primarily in Linux but growing increasingly more competent in Windows. Most of my work is performed remotely, and most of the servers that I maintain are distributed globally.I love the work that I do, and I am always willing to consider opportunities where my experience, discipline and work ethic are valued and appreciated. The past two years have been difficult for all of us, and many of us have had to adopt to working and continuing our education from home due to this awful pandemic. But adversity breeds creativity, resilience and an increased focus on redefining the “workplace”.As a former field-service engineer, I have long been accustomed to working away from “the office”, in motel and hotel rooms and hastily constructed command centers, and a few trailers. These past few years, from the perspective of work, I have thrived, performing the majority of my work from home.As an IT specialist focusing on Linux and Cloud systems administration I have considerable assets at home that rival those available elsewhere. I have multiple connections to the Internet, backup power generation, a rack of servers at my disposal, and accounts with several Cloud service providers. Did I mention how much I love the work I do.Moving forward, my intention will be to continue working from home. I am open to contract work, where there is a minimum of on-site work required. I believe that thoughtful IT managers who are accustomed to occasionally thinking outside-the-box will see the advantages of leveraging my knowledge, talent, experience and resources while pursuing the successful implementation of their most important projects.

Listed skills include Openstack, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and 17 others.
