Worked as part of a team building out in-house warehouse management software. At peak, this software was run both in on-prem and AWS clusters across 7 warehouses, coordinating 1000+ employees per warehouse.* Led development on picking-related services within Zulily; built systems in kotlin and java using microservices build with dropwizard (a small set of REST-related JEE technologies), deployed within docker containers managed primarily via on-prem kubernetes, leveraging MariaDB, redis, and rabbitmq.* Sole initial developer on the fulfillment director service which directed various functions to orchestrate the fulfillment of an order, tracking a wide variety of potential conditions and updating services as needed. At peak, the software managed over 400k shipments in a single day from a single warehouse, and was responsible for managing as much as 84M shipments per year across all warehouses.* Led project to migrate existing build and deployment of services from on-prem systems to AWS, allowing us to eliminate almost all on-prem systems.* Architected, built, tested, and managed dozens of services within the WMS; personally completed initial build and deployment of 10* Assisted in the launch of six warehouses across the US as well as one in China, including managing the complete launch of all software and services in one.* Additional work on maintaining and deprecating an existing C# WMS application which ultimately handled a small part of warehouse work, reducing its functionality and replacing it with new services in our JVM systems* Introduced kotlin into our codebase, enhancing readability and clarity within new services as well as smoothing porting of code in older versions of Java; the resulting services had close to zero defect rates, and helped in the rapid migration of a very large service over from a legacy infrastructure to a more modern one.

Architecture, development and maintenance of a business intelligence webservice, taking in large data feeds and providing OLAP services to provide rapidly generated, highly configurable views of that data. The front end is a hybrid of a legacy perl CGI based webservice and an improved Flex (Flash) UI; the back end a mix of Perl, C and Java. Responsibilities ranged from the design and architecture of new Java system elements to replace existing code to the maintenance and integration of new features into the older C-Perl hybrid code, with an eye towards a significantly improved Java-C back end. Team constraints required ability to quickly shift from building HTML/CSS/JS frontend code to work with older UI as well working in ActionScript on newer Flex UI to back end services.

Built and maintained backend service tools, for the sales, provisioning, configuration, and billing of customer services. A wide variety of technologies were employed, as the entire system went from a somewhat informally developed Perl system to a more rigorously architected and tested Java system. Helped to integrate a Perl system operating under mod_perl, backed by Oracle, with very little by way of common code (i.e., anything from CPAN), with a new Java system running on Tomcat, using Hibernate to communicate with the Oracle database and Spring MVC as a framework.

Third Party Payments (3PP)Worked with a small team within Amazon to build and improve third-party payments software. Primary duties were the maintenance and improvement of a wide variety of object oriented mod_perl CS tools used by Amazon fraud and customer service teams for the investigation of third-party customers and orders as well as operations on both. Further systems included XML-over-HTTP servers and database-accessing systems to perform operations; all were in Perl, most using mod_perl under Apache.
