Software Engineer
For the majority of my time working at WeightWatchers, I worked on the Food Tracking team as the lead Android engineer. My responsibilities included anything involving the experience around tracking foods, meals, or recipes. Our team was charged with completing two different app redesigns. The most notable involved incorporating various components from a design system developed by WeightWatchers on each of the screens in the experience. Acting as the lead Android engineer on my team, my responsibilities could be broken down as follows:Technical Leadership - Mentor developers, set technical direction, enforce best practices, and conduct code reviews.Project Management - Collaborate with stakeholders, estimate resources, and ensure timely project delivery.Architecture & Design - Design scalable architecture and decide on patterns and technologies.Development - Write and lead development of clean, efficient code; Used trunk-based development to handle branch management.Quality Assurance - Implement tests, ensure performance standards, and resolve critical issues.During my tenure at WeightWatchers, I had the opportunity to lead the development of several key features that significantly enhanced the functionality and user experience using the WeightWatchers app. By leveraging modern development practices and integrating robust third-party libraries, I was able to build scalable and maintainable components that streamlined our development process and improved app performance. Below are some of the notable features I developed during this period:- Two redesigns of the food tracking experience- Contributed to building out components written in Compose for the design system- Updated from MVVM architecture pattern (Roxie) to MVI (Mavericks)- Built out the UI for connecting to fitness trackers- Built the entire experience for tracking foods, meals, and recipes- Refactored the gradle files in all of the modules to be written in Kotlin instead of Groovy
Android Developer
Developing and maintaining Meijer’s mobile application. I have spent the majority of my time in this position as the lead Android developer on my team. It was also because of this lead role that I was given the opportunity to join an additional team that was responsible for building out features and tools to help enable and empower the other Android developers on my train. Lead Android developer responsibilities include:- Knowledge transfer between teams- On-boarding new developers- Technical grooming for cards/features- Assisting other developers with issues- Triaging major release bugs- Building out proper architecture patterns- Own the majority of the work involving PRs- Be a representative of our team in meetingsAs a developer, I was involved with updating and maintaining a feature in the Meijer mobile application that allowed customers to scan products to add them to a cart on the mobile device and then enable them to use their mobile device to checkout of the store. The feature in Meijer’s mobile app is called Shop & Scan. I was also responsible for working on many other sections of Meijer’s mobile app. Another major feature that my team was responsible for was building out the experience for ordering products through the Meijer app for pickup and delivery. While at Meijer, I worked on some of the following features that were in the mobile app:- Meijer incorporated a digital design system that we used to help provide a similar user experience throughout the different sections of the app. - Custom views to build out the best possible user experiences and empower other developers to have reusable components- MVI architecture to enable better testability and ensure view states are consistent- Shop & Scan: Scan items with your smartphone as you shop, tracking your spending in real-time enabling a quicker shopping and checkout experience.
Mobile Application Development Intern
Summer internship, where I developed an application called mFuel designed to enhance the customer's experience when using the gas pump at Meijer gas stations.
