LunaRay : I Developed a photo-realistic 3D rendering engine, based on Vulkan ray tracing and Nvidia RTX technology. LunaRay is used to simulate what our lunar lander's camera will see during descent and landing. This is used for testing our precision landing Terrain Relative Navigation (TRN) sytem, developed in collaboration with NASA JPL. LunaRay also generates physically accurate, georeferenced maps of the lunar surface, used by the space craft for navigation. Ephemeris data is used to correctly simulate sun angle and surface illumination conditions, for a given geolocation, at the expected date and time of landing. This gives TRN the best possible chance to match the live camera image to an area on the map, and navigate to the target landing site.

    Cincinnati, Oh, Us
I developed a prototype Synthetic Vision System (SVS) and Primary Flight Display (PFD) for the COMAC C919 Airliner in China. The SVS project provides a synthetically rendered supplemental view of the aircraft's external scene, to enhance the pilot’s situational awareness, particularly in low-visibility conditions. I achieved this goal by using C++ and OpenGL ES, to render a 3D representation of the surrounding terrain, based on a stored database of terrain elevation data, Satellite imagery, obstacle data and airport maps. This cross-platform application was developed to run on Windows, Linux, Android and VxWorks, using either an x86, ARM or MIPS CPU.

Projects: BattlehawkI worked on the creation of a Military real time tactical awareness system, called "Battlehawk", which runs on custom built embedded handheld devices. The software would wirelessly communicate with peer devices, to track hostile and friendly units on an OpenGL rendered interactive 3D map of the surrounding terrain. This 3D terrain renderer was also used for GPS navigation, mission planning, terrain (slope) analysis and line-of-sight analysis.
