Ik was verantwoordelijk voor de public affairs van de provincies Gelderland en Overijssel in Den Haag. Ik hield me bezig met oa het faciliteren van De Akte van Oost en de thema's energietransitie, stikstoftransitie, regiobeleid/krimp, droogtetransitie en woningbouw.

EPPA is het oudste Public Affairs kantoor van Nederland. Ik adviseer - als zelfstandige binnen kantoor - maatschappelijk georiënteerde bedrijven, overheden en organisaties hoe ze hun belangen in de landelijke en lokale politiek effectief kunnen behartigen. Ik was via Eppa oa actief voor het g40 netwerk van gemeenten.

Already since the 1970s European Union Member States cooperate on matters of foreign policy, including human rights. Yet, up to now, scholars involved in the research on the role of human rights in the foreign policy of the Netherlands have largely ignored this. Studies of human rights policy have focused on the nation state rather than the member state. EU studies, on the other hand, have structurally ignored the historical development of European foreign policy. The purpose of my PhD dissertation is to fill these gaps, to concentrate on the story of the Netherlands and EU cooperation in the field of human rights, and to lift the veil of secrecy about EU decision-making. Beyond my main research, I have written articles on the review of the Human Rights Council (2009-2011) and on the Human Rights Committee. I co-initiated and organized three international conferences and various seminars. I have coordinated and (re)designed a course on Human Rights and International Relations at Utrecht University. Moreover, I have taught, presented, consulted and lectured at Clingendael Institute for International Relations and Diplomacy, University College Utrecht, University College Roosevelt, Adelphi University (US), the Dutch Foreign Ministry and a number of Dutch NGOs.

The function of research ambassador was created in 2009 by the university board to improve the relationship between the Utrecht University faculty and the high schools in the Utrecht region. Each year three PhD-researchers (one from every faculty) are selected to participate in a special program. The focus of the program is on practical skills to teach at high schools and on how to inspire and persuade students to choose for an academic study and/or career. The program also helps to explain complex university research in plain language. Among others, I taught a class at Utrecht's Stedelijk Gymnasium.

Kompass is de nieuwe en energieke burgerrechtenorganisatie. We zijn de belangenbehartiger voor burgerrechten, sociale rechtvaardigheid en gelijke kansen binnen het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden. Wij versterken de kracht van burgercollectieven en maatschappelijke organisaties. Wij geven een stem aan diegene die niet gehoord worden.In juni 2015 begonnen de voorbereidingen voor Kompass. In september 2016 kwam ik fulltime in dienst. In januari 2017 was de launch van de organisatie. Als directeur ben ik verantwoordelijk voor strategie, management en rapportage, fondsenwerving, nieuwe partnerschappen, woordvoering en strategisch lobbyadvies.

Dietz Dröge & van Loo was "a highly effective Netherlands’ based government affairs, government relations and public policy firm." In 2016, DDvL merged with partners to become PBLCO.In two years, I worked on political outreach for organizations, institutions and businesses in the field of (higher) education, sustainability, local government, international human rights and social and anti-discrimination policy.

At Hivos, I was responsible for national and international lobby on human rights including women's rights and gender identity, LGBT and internet freedom. Among other things, I was responsible for bringing a group of Syrian human right defenders to New York and Washington. We managed to secure Syrian women a seat at the table at the Geneva peace talks.

In between 2011 and 2012, I was the Executive Chair person of the Dutch NGO Platform on Human Rights and Foreign Policy. Members of the platform were: Amnesty International, COC, Cordaid, DCI, Hivos, ICCO, IKV-Pax Christi, Justitia et Pax Netherlands, Lawyers for Lawyers, Netherlands Helsinki Comité, ICJ Netherlands, Oxfam-Novib, PBI, UNPO and YWCA. In 1,5 years, I have reorganized the forum, refocused its activities and secured funding. Our platform was a major player in advocating for human rights as a key element of Dutch foreign affairs and against the budget cuts on human rights and embassies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Working for the State of the Netherlands in the Human Rights Council on the topics of freedom of expression, human rights reform and human rights in Cambodia Myanmar and Israel/OPT.
