Leisel The Therapy Dog

I am a volunteer with Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs. I have had many other German Shepherds in the past. I trained and worked with Search & Rescue dogs as well as my other Therapy dogs. When I retiered, I wanted to give back to our community and a therapy dog was right up my alley. I did my due diligence and found my pup that was of German lineage and Sieger Champions. Upon getting the 8-week pup home training began. I began conditioning her, and trained her daily, always with love. She learned and excelled in obedience and how to act with children. LEISEL was exposed to young Children immediately, my Grandchildren. Every day we worked together and every day she learned. From touching her paws and tail, to just sitting there waiting for more love, she excelled. 13 months later she was Certified AKC Canine Good CitizenCGC and as a certified Therapy Dog by The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs. Therapy dog visits may vary, depending on the reason for the visit, the nature of the facility, and the type of person being visited. The objective of our therapy visit is to provide comfort and pleasure to someone in need.Therapy dogs have significant health benefits and can reduce stress, anxiety and depression as well as provide a sense of connection in difficult situations. To many, Dogs bring back pleasant and warm memories of family pets from days gone by. When we visit rehabilitation facilities and hospitals, the students or the patients can ease the boredom of institutional life or the pain of a recent surgery by visits from a friendly face with a wagging tail. Sometimes a patient with depression who hasn’t spoken for a while will have a conversation with a dog. LEISEL happily visits the Brackman middle school in Barnegat, NJ every Wednesday, the Ocean County Library, Air National Guard, and numerous other schools and assisted living facilities.
