I represent the State of Washington in Grays Harbor District and Superior Court.

I am cofounder and Managing Partner of Populous Legal Services PLLC, a general practice law firm dedicated to serving clients of moderate means.Populous Legal Services was conceived in the Spring of 2012 and won the 14th annual Harriet Stephenson Business Plan Competition at Seattle University School of Business.

Feldman & Lee’s Marysville office provides the contract public defense services for the Snohomish County cities of Marysville, Arlington, and Lake Stevens. Two other associate attorneys and I negotiated with four prosecutors, appeared before two municipal court judges, and appeared for daily video calendars from two jails.I performed jury trials, wrote and argued motions, appeared at probation hearings and investigated cases.

As Managing Editor I oversaw the journal’s website (www.sjel.org) and coordinated with Sheridan Press to publish the physical editions of SJEL. I represented the City of Bothell in Bothell Municipal Court at all stages of the criminal adjudication process, from reviewing police arrests, arraignment, pre-trial hearings, motions hearings, and at trial. I performed three trials and ran the arraignment, probation, and infraction calendars unassisted. I briefed and argued suppression hearings and negotiated on the City’s behalf as part of the probation and infraction calendars.

I assisted staff attorneys in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, criminal division, with trial preparation, witness interviews, legal research, motion writing and response, and performed other duties as needed for attorneys in the civil division.

I assisted prosecutors in the KCPAO’s felony domestic violence trial unit with multiple aspects of trial preparation, including trial strategy, researching and writing motion briefs, trial briefs, sentencing briefs, and interviewing potential witnesses.

Provided program support for three in-house attorneys, maintained official legislative files, handled committee correspondence, orchestrated committee hearings and proofread committee reports disseminated to the members and public.

I reported and wrote Greenhouse Gas Transactions and Technologies, a trade publication covering the development of carbon policy by Congress, the U.S. Department of Energy, multiple industry and environmental groups, and internationally.

Law and Justice Reporter — Covered six federal, state, and local police agencies and the Clallam County court system. Original work distributed on the Associated Press wire included coverage of a U.S. Customs and Board Patrol traffic checkpoint, a double-drowning vehicle crash on the Lower Elwha Tribal Reservation and the subsequent manslaughter charges, the discovery of a missing hiker in the Olympic National Park, and the hunting and killing of a grey whale by members of the Makah Tribe.

I started as the general assignment reporter for the western half of Skagit County, then the local government reporter. Covered four city councils and wrote issue-driven stories about growth management and urban quality of life. Reporting projects included an investigation of the City of Anacortes Fire Department’s slow response to a fatal residential fire, the environmental impacts of septic tanks on shellfish harvesting, and a contentious mayoral election.
