Since 2003 I've been on a 21 year journey to bring literacy to every child in the United States through my work running the American Youth Literacy Foundation 501 c 3. I'm happy to say that we are very, very close to achieving that goal. I've had many lives that brought me to this purpose beginning as an ESL instructor in Bogotá, Colombia, when I was 19 years old (about 41 years ago), then as an Arabic and Spanish translator for the 101st Airborne Division, then as a law student at UCLA, then as a co-founder of three separate telecom companies, then as an entrepreneur running an after school enrichment program for gifted children, then as a homeschooling dad, teaching my son how to read, and since 2008, as the founding director of the American Youth Literacy Foundation, dba FUNetix®. In March, 2012, our foundation was awarded a patent on a novel application of an ancient technology called "diacritics" as applied to the English language. In 2020, during the pandemic, we built and launched the most AMAZING app in the world called the FUNetix 12 Hour Reading App, that can teach ANY child how to read in just 12 hours! For 21 years we have been developing, proving and replicating the success of FUNetix through extensive field research, teaching thousands of children from diverse socio-economic and demographic backgrounds, how to read. We are, and always have been, an all-volunteer team of amazing and wonderful skilled professionals, working virtually across the country and around the world to solve the scourge of illiteracy and bring hope, happiness, opportunity, prosperity and personal sovereignty to millions of children.
