I was born the third son to Malcolm and LaVelle Kopplin in San Antonio, Texas. I had absolutely no idea what the world had in store for me and little did I know that soon my family and I would morph into gypsy travelers, moving from place to place with my dad’s work.I have also lived in Little Rock, AR, Oklahoma City, OK, Austin, TX.Finally settling in Ft. Worth, I had the chance to be somewhat normal and go to school properly. It was at my new school, Western Hills High School that I met the love of my life and my now-wife, Becky Budaus.We married young at the age of 19, Nov. 26, 1971. I’m proud to say that Becky has stuck by me through thick and thin, and we’ve been happily married for 46 years. We certainly were blessed with the healthy happy family part. We have four great grown kids and three grandkids. I had been awarded my BS in Architecture in 1979, received my architectural license and then finally my National NCARB accreditation. I was lucky enough to practice my craft at some of the country’s largest and most prestigious architectural firms, which included me playing a role in the design and construction of several impressive buildings.The industry can be fickle, but despite the numerous layoffs within the industry, I managed to survive (just). Then 2009 happened. At the not-so-tender age of 57 I found myself laid off along with 50% of architectural profession. There just wasn’t any work, and even if there was, who wanted to hire someone who was close to retirement age anyway?I was determined to do anything it took to fight and provide for my family. It was this determination that helped me beat all odds, win, and succeed.Have you recently found yourself in an unexpected and unbearable situation? Let’s chat about it.
