Torn between big city and small town mentality is like the disconnect between embracing technology and the fear that robots will eventually take over the world.I have managed restaurants, retail and wholesale. The one thing I’ve found is that it’s all about the people. Food, trends and systems change and vary, however it’s the way you handle staff and customers that is of paramount importance.I once had an interview with an owner of a restaurant and he was hesitant about me being the right person for the job. I hadn’t worked in that type of restaurant before. I responded by likening it to a minor league baseball manager. He may be able to do the same job as a major leaguer but just lacked the opportunity – different environment but still about people. That first (season) year he had higher sales and more regulars.I miss the personal touch which the tech generation has seemed to have forgotten. A few others may have more experience but may lack the intangibles I bring.
