About Robert Glover

I'm going to give you an idea... a concept, really. What if you could change lives just by offering young men and women an opportunity to earn their degrees and serve their country? What if you could impact hundreds of young men and women by providing them a pipeline to an education that would lead to either a commission or an enlistment contract that would help them take care of their families now and in the future? What if, in developing this pipeline, you could provide first generation college students the opportunity to serve and eventually come back to their communities to help rebuild or strengthen the foundation of those communities? That is what we're trying to do at Houston Community College: providing a pipeline to real world experiences and success! We've developed ten (12) pipelines designed for both our prospective and current students: 5/ROTC pathways (Army, Navy, Air Force), working with Rice University (Navy ROTC) and the University of Houston (Army & Air Force ROTC), the Strategic Officer Recruiting Detachment-Houston (SORD), and the Navy Talent Acquisition Group-Houston (NTAG) and 7/enlisted pipelines working with the Houston Army Recruiting Bn, NTAG, the 341st Recruiting Squadron, 8th Marine Corps District, 4th USCG Recruiting District, Army National Guard, and the Air National Guard. Each one of these pipelines requires our students to complete their AAS/Workforce degrees and either transfer to the 4-year institutions to obtain their bachelors degrees and receive their commissions OR enter one of the enlisted pipelines to start a career in technical and non-technical MOSs.This is what I call having an opportunity to serve - to be a part of something bigger than themselves and something for those who have that propensity to serve. This is about providing that opportunity for those 1st generation college students and young people coming from under-served communities. I am the Executive Director for Military Education Programs at HCC and this is what we do!That is #HCC #ArmyROTC #NavyROTC #AirForceROTC #SORD #NTAG #Army #Navy #Marines #USCG #Air Force

  • International Leadership Of Texas Windmill Lakes-Orem High School
    Senior Marine Instructor
International Leadership Of Texas Windmill Lakes-Orem High School Jul 2022 - Aug 2023
Senior Marine Instructor (SMI)The SMI manages the entire program. Although they spend much of their time in the classroom, enrollment activities are a fundamental part of the job. This involves: briefings to school administrators, faculty, and community organizations to explain the program and elicit support, counseling of cadets and other students, and briefings to students from supporting junior high schools. The SMI must be involved in: community relations, liaison with other Marine Corps and civilian agencies, unit supply or administrative functions, career and performance counseling, and an extensive extracurricular program, such as a military ball, co-curricular competition, Cadet webpage, drill team(s), color guard(s), academic team(s), air rifle team(s), parades, flag raising, retreat ceremonies, presentation of awards, fund raising activities for the unit or charitable institutions. As classroom teachers, they will typically be required to teach five out of six/seven periods of a traditional school day. The teaching load may be less. They wear their Marine Corps Uniforms while performing MCJROTC duties. The job of the SMI is not as structured as most Marine Corps jobs. Although the Marine Corps provides some guidance for managing the program, self-direction, initiative, and self-reliance are essential traits of the SMI.
  • Ross Shaw Sterling Aviation Early College High School, Houston Independent School District
    Senior Naval Science Instructor (Snsi)
Ross Shaw Sterling Aviation Early College High School, Houston Independent School District Aug 2019 - Aug 2022
The primary responsibility of the SNSI and NSI employed by an institution with an NJROTC unit shall be that of instruction and administration of the NJROTC program. We make those "duties" happen by creating an environment in which young men and women can grow into stronger and more resilient citizens of our great nation. It's not a recruiting tool for the Sea Services, although many who pass through these halls may very well choose to enter the Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard or any other military service. This is a civics lesson designed to teach governance, discipline, and confidence to overcome adversities that these young people may come up against. We promote service to community, country, and self and only hope that these Student/Cadets will come back into their communities to give back and serve as the example to the next generation of students.I ask each one of my Student/Cadets one question w/just four words in it: Is...That...Your...Best? If the answer's 'no' then I think that that is the first step to making great leaders and followers.
