Learned basic molecular bio techniques such as gel electrophoresis, PCR, Gibson assembly, streaking and inoculating bacteria, and transformation. Developed a bioprocess using Bacillus licheniformis to produce an alkaline protease using acetate as a substrate. Tested various media recipes involving phosphate concentration, nitrogen source, salinity, and trace element concentration. Created growth curves in LB, glucose, and acetate to compare B. licheniformis growth patterns. Measured production of protease through a colorimetric assay involving digestion of casein.

Modeled downstream processes in SuperPro Designer to validate cost assumptions, identify bottlenecks, and reduce process economics. Conducted in-lab stability study to determine minimum concentration of antioxidant necessary to stabilize product in process streams.
