I am responsible for working with clients to determine their needs, writing proposals, investigations, and reporting on findings. I work with contractors to execute recommendations or scope of work in a safe and effective manner.When investigating client sites I speak with employees of the client or building occupants to gain perspective as to why I have been called to the building as well as investigating the physical characteristics of the building itself. Careful calibration of sampling equipment and understanding of sampling methods allows for more accurate results to be presented to the client and more informative recommendations. I communicate directly with clients to inform them how projects are progressing and to provide recommendations on how projects should proceed. In many cases this is done through phone calls and emails while the project is ongoing. The final outcomes of projects are usually presented in a formal report with text, photos, and CAD drawings.I have recently begun work on internal project teams to change how the company as a whole uses technology in day-to-day operations and to improve processes within the office. While working for Magna I was responsible for working with the manufacturing staff to update the work instructions for all of the products. Some lines had recently been updated with newer equipment resulting in process changes that had not been captured in the instructions. While updating the work instructions I also updated the FEMA documents to include all of the relevant steps in the manufacturing process. As a co-op student I was scheduled to be with Sabic for four months. The overarching project that I was working on was to try and determine a way to improve production rates. The largest issue was on start up that specific colours and mixtures did not always meet product specifications at the start of the run and the formula would need to be altered. I compared production values and the number of failures at startup to determine if a change could be made to base formulas to reduce startup waste. I spend most of my time at GE working on analyzing the remaining life span in materials that had been used in a long term industrial manufacturing environment. The equipment was scheduled to be replaced but based on the difficulties with replacing it the the analysis was undertaken to determine when replacement would be necessary.

I worked at Decoma for two 4 month co-op terms. In one term I focused on testing and determining how a colour spectrometer could best be utilized to ensure the final product (headlights and taillights) matched the colour that the client expected. In the second term I focused on a specific line that was known for having entire runs of lamps that would fail a certain quality test. As a co-op student I was responsible for creating the AutoCAD floor plans to be included with the reports to clients to show areas of assessment and where samples were collected during an investigation. I was also given the opportunity to complete investigations with technicians and receive introductory training on mould and asbestos sampling.
