Des Moines, Iowa, United States

DMPS is the largest school district in the state of Iowa, with 60 schools and about 30,000 students. The district serves the student populations to whom I've dedicated my entire career, with nearly 25% of its students being English language learners and 75% qualifying for free or reduced-fee meals based on their income. They live in the heart of an increasingly diverse city, and it will be my job to make sure that their schools are offering them the kinds of high-quality academic opportunities they deserve and will need to succeed in Iowa or beyond.
