This role required the investigation of new and emerging technologies and how they can be used in learning, teaching and assessment and to enhance the student experience.Main achievements:● Advised numerous colleagues and students on the use of technology in their teaching and learning activities.● Research and activity in the areas of Mobile Learning, Immersive Visualisation Environments, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Online Virtual Worlds, Games Based Learning, and Alternate Reality Games.● Established, promoted and supported a stereoscopic virtual reality visualisation suite, and supported staff and students with using the technology in projects and assessments.● Two years of teaching a final year module called Virtual Reality Applications.● Supervision of four final year undergraduate projects● Supervision of a PhD focusing on a comparison of the use of immersive visualisation environments and traditional classroom-based methods for the teaching of neuroanatomy and the central nervous system to radiotherapy students.● Presentations at numerous conferences, including Blackboard BbWorld Europe (2009, standing in for a colleague), mLearn (2008), Diverse (2008), Learning Through Enquiry Alliance (2008), Solstice (2008), Computer Assisted Assessment (2007) and the Higher Education Academy Conference (2006).● Publishing of articles about authentic learning (Innovations in Education and Teaching International) and the use of online virtual worlds for ‘machinima’ film-making (ALT-J).● Initiating and facilitating projects where students from the Architectural Technology and Interactive Media with Animation programmes worked together to create virtual, interactive versions of the building designs of the Architectural Technology students.● Initiating and facilitating client-developer projects, where staff and students worked together on mutually beneficial projects, including the development of a number of educational game prototypes

This role included:● Liaising between the Learning Technology team and the faculty Learning, Teaching and Assessment Co-ordinators● Advising academic staff on the appropriate use of technology● Responsibility for the long-term management of projects● Co-ordinating the work of other team members, including supervising placement students● Planning/arranging the weekly team seminar programme - deciding topics, inviting guests and guest speakers from across the university

This role involved:● Development of educational multimedia in the form of CD-ROMs, websites and media, including the development of MediaWeb, a CD-ROM to inform businesses how to make use of the internet. Other developments included Mastering University, a CD-ROM to support students with studying at postgraduate level, the Springhill Colliery project, a CD- ROM for property appraisal students, and a web-based virtual brain to support students from a number of courses to learn about the functional areas of the brain.● Development of skills with the wide range of software used for developing e-learning materials, including PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, Premiere, Sound Forge, Media Cleaner Pro, Director, and Flash, for graphic design, image editing, website design and development, sound and video editing and compression, and the development of interactive sequences, simulations and animations.● Supporting academic and support staff with the use of the Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment, which included setting up electronic assessments, the creation of a range of media for use in teaching and learning, and a number of annotated radiographs for use in assessments.
