Learned to do research right.• Defined 23 possible research projects by reading articles, finding questions and gauging their significance.• Started distributed writing group and facilitated > 20 meetings by adapting to the participants’ needs.• Ended remote meetings almost 100 % on time by preparing agendas and following them.• Gave feedback on 5 texts by other researchers by checking argumentation, style, orthography, clarity.• Wrote 2 analyses by identifying open questions in a project and explaining possible answers.• Wrote 1 report by adapting a Python/TensorFlow machine learning system, and plotting and discussing learning behaviour.

Investigated reflection for factored cognition. Wrote scenarios to discover requirements and validate designs. Implemented, tested and documented a question decomposition program. Explained the result to a collaborator. Suggested applications as well as avenues for further research. Kept project status page up-to-date and reported progress to stakeholders weekly.• Pioneered reflection with time travel in a question decomposition program by using Clojure and the NoSQL database Datomic.• Delivered working code and documentation on time by estimating task duration and managing priorities.

Responsible for improving the performance of an 800 kLOC Python ERP system in order to increase the productivity of 250 users. Clarified priorities and measured progress to ensure effectiveness. Coordinated efforts with the IT team at the client. Tweaked and redesigned algorithms to make them faster. Reviewed code to avoid failures and ensure maintainability.• Made Odoo ERP profile-able with Python's cProfile for the first time by writing code that generates code on the fly.• Made rollout of Odoo to major client possible by speeding up manufacturing workflow 80 %.• Reduced user wait times of various workflows by > 90 % by tweaking business logic and rewriting certain ORM algorithms.• Ended daily traffic increase and system slowdown by adding housekeeping code to the JavaScript client.• Guided team members to become productive working on performance within four days by writing how-tos and giving advice.• Tracked down an intermittent failure that had been unsolved for two years by connecting a remote debugger to CI builds.• Shortened the feedback loop for changing view definitions from 20 s to 5 s by adding a reload command to the Odoo Shell.• Delivered a half-year project on time by starting early.• Saved myself 15 minutes every day by simplifying the Docker-based development workflow.

Jumped in to do all on-the-ground work for Alameda Research in Japan while they were searching for someone more qualified. Conducted daily transactions of $1-20 M with Japanese financial institutions. Researched terms and conditions at local businesses. Handled official paperwork. Developed software to support operations.• Enabled the company to earn more than $10 M for altruistic purposes (I thought) by taking ownership and communicating effectively.• Automated website polling by using Python and Selenium, and sending updates to team­mates’ phones from a Raspberry Pi.• Achieved 0 failed or mistaken transac­tions by using checklists.

Maintained development infrastructure. Migrated continuous integration scripts and jobs from Bazaar to Git to keep up with upstream changes. Gathered requirements and clarified priorities. Improved testing, measuring and version control tools. Rewrote accounting modules with cleaner design for new Odoo API.• Shortened the feedback cycle for infrastructure development from minutes to seconds by setting up a local testing ground.• Removed all sources of Unicode errors in the 8 kLOC of Python infrastructure with self-written tools and guidelines.• Avoided frequent merge conflicts and manual merges of PO files by writing a Git merge driver for them.• Decreased Odoo DB update time from 30 min to 10 min by fixing an inefficient ORM procedure.• Handed off working code and well-documented project status on time by starting early and staying on track.

Built the foundation of an open source note­book application for the humanities. Coordinated with the product owner. Made a development plan. Gathered requirements. Set up frontend, backend and continuous integration. Administrated Linux server for deployment. Reported status weekly.• Built a clean Datomic/Clojure/ClojureScript web stack by developing spikes and following best practices.

Developed a system for extracting and distributing metadata about Clojure code. Gathered requirements, wrote the specification, designed, implemented and documented a data model and supporting tools. Sent patches to open source projects that I relied on.• Delivered complete code and documentation on time by having a clear objective, limiting work in progress and starting early.• Wrote a Leiningen plugin for extracting metadata and uploading them to Clojars/Maven as Datadoc JARs.
