Hi there! 👋 My name is Robert Morain. I am currently working on my PhD in Computer Science at Brigham Young University. I research knowledge integration in pre-trained language models. For the last three years, I have developed and executed a research agenda to better understand the role knowledge plays in Natural Language Understanding. I began my research journey thinking of the creative process and how it can be emulated in a creative system. This led me to take interest in cognitive science looking for connections between cognitive processes and machine learning. I have since concluded that semantic memory is a critical component in understanding and generating language. However, language models are trained to build a statistical model of the language and only indirectly acquire knowledge. Since then, it has been important to me explore how to best integrate knowledge to move one step closer toward high autonomy creative systems.
