Eastern Canada

The vSpecialist team at EMC is a pre-sales technical evangelist group assisting account sales teams with virtualization opportunities. vSpecialists work with partners, customers, commercial and enterprise account representatives to generate and close opportunities through direct dialogue, targeted presentations, classes and hands on labs. These services are delivered during visits to customer sites, from the EMC offices or through industry events such as trade shows.

Canada Wide Responsibility

VMware’s Professional Services Organization is tasked with delivering the highest quality services possible across a wide array of demanding clients. As VMware’s first Canadian delivery consultant, this role required flexibility and a willingness to work outside the core job description more often than in mature markets. Focus is typically on enterprise clients such as Royal Bank of Canada, Vale-Inco and the Bank of Montreal, simultaneously working closely with the VMware Sales organization to ensure high customer satisfaction and further opportunity identification. Auxiliary roles include being an active member of the BC/DR practice area and mentoring other VMware consultants during their onboarding process. Rob holds an RHCE, VCP (Vi2-4), VSP and is ITIL certified.

As the Chief Architect for the Software Solutions group responsibilities included leveraging existing resources and relationships in order to develop new product and services offerings, bringing these solutions from inception to a state of consistent, successful delivery by any member of the group. The ultimate goal of this exercise being to increase the firm’s potential revenue stream beyond the single deal model. With a customer-facing mix of pre and post sales targets, this position demands a fine balance between short term margin and long term customer satisfaction.

Hired by IBM as an independent contractor to assist with a two day firewall project, the assignment morphed into the co-design and implementation management of Canada’s first online banking solution for an organization with 30,000 employees, 1,000+ branches and $10 billion in revenue.
