Worked on the implementation of SOCKSArmor and extension modules, a general purpose proxy focusing on the management of internet resources, focusing on HTTP and instant-messaging filtering.SOCKSArmor is a general-purpose filtering proxy, allowing for fine-grained control over supported protocols. Protocols include MSN messenger, POP3, HTTP, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. Additional protocols are included via a plugin mechanism. The protocol filtering is highly configurable, allowing a network administrator to control different aspects of its behavior. It also allows for network administrators to log all communication with high detail, or embed alerts in the communication.

Integration of P2P-SL, a security middleware, into OurGrid, a Java-based peer-to-peer grid application.The middleware was highly configurable, and supported the transparent inclusion of different security aspects, such as cryptography. The project consisted on generalizing the existent middleware so that it could be more easily integrated on projects using different communication mechanisms. The application using the middleware specifies which aspects to use, and the middleware handles the transformations in the message.

Implementation of an RMON2 network monitoring agent for a high-speed research network, able to cooperate with Net-SNMP as a dynamically loadable module.The agent could sustain packet-collection rates of about 45,000 packets per second with low drop rates. The agent was extended to support Protocol Trace Specification Language (PTSL), a language for describing traces of communication protocols. PTSL allowed for fine-grained network monitoring, including intrusion detection and surveillance detection performed using different types of port-scanning techniques.
