I’m semi-retired after a long career in education technology and silicon valley high tech. Most recently I am known for growing 1Edtech (aka IMS Global Learning Consortium), now one of the world’s most productive and impactful non-profit education technology communities, that we grew to be a world class standards-setting consortia (roughly equivalent in size to W3C).I’m passionate about creating inspired businesses through application of advanced technology, market development, community leadership and channeling private resources to benefit the greater good. I'm an in the trenches leader that is experienced in all aspects of business strategy and operations. I have a strong track record in developing and executing cross-functional business, operational and technical strategies that achieve market success at the global level.I became CEO of IMS in 2006, a 6-person non-profit member consortium with 50 members. We reengineered the strategy and operations, including the eventual rebranding to 1EdTech. We grew to over 1050 members, one of the largest edtech collaboratives in the world. I founded the 1EdTech Foundation, a 501c3 focused on expanding access to edtech in support of breakthrough educational models. 1EdTech achieved over $70 USD million contributions to the cause under my leadership, with 5-10x more direct investment by the members. Today our work is ubiquitous in education.Prior to 1EdTech I served as SVP client services, biz dev and CMO at Collegis (now part of Ellucian), providing IT and edtech outsourcing to 100 HEd institutions. Prior I was global leader of the Oracle Learning Architecture, a very influential 1st generation learning platform. Within edtech I am generally credited as an industry leader/entrepreneur that helped establish LMSs, online learning, online program management, interoperability, classroom capture, digital credentials & learner experience platforms. At National Semiconductor I was market development manager reporting into the C-suite, focused on a broad array of new markets, including Internet..At TRW/ESL I led the Advanced Computing Lab, focused on distributed computing, neural networks, artificial intelligence, user interface, parallel processing and advanced signal processing, receiving the prestigious TRW Chairman’s Award for Innovation.
