About Rob Abbott
I am a counsellor and supervisor in private practice. I am also Clinical Director of Arun Counselling. I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor. I have over twenty years experience of working with people of all ages and helping them recover from and manage a broad range of mental health issues. My latest book, Child Development and the Brain is published by Policy Press. A 2nd edition is due out in March 2023.I am also an Associate Lecturer with the Open University, tutoring on Counselling and Mental Health (D241).

Experienced and highly skilled counsellor working with a broad range of clients both long and short term. I regularly lecture on aspects of mental health to both academic and non-academic audiences. In recent years I have held workshops on depression, using neuroscience knowledge in counselling/psychotherapy and managing stress. I am an experienced supervisor who has worked with established counsellors and new entrants to the profession as well as supervising counsellors in training.

Co-author of Child Development and the Brain - a text which presents an account of the new developments in neuroscience in a language that is accessible for the general reader. Also author of books on Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy. Co-editor of a range of books on T S Eliot, Marcel Proust, Angela Carter, Toni Morrison and others.

I was module leader on a range of courses on both the BA in Early Childhood and the BA (QTS) in Early Years. These courses included Child Development, Children's Language and Literature and Academic Skills. My main academic interest lies in the intersection between neuroscience and developmental psychology.
