The key purpose of my role is to apply technical CAD skills to update the asset management systems in line with clearly defined procedures, standards and service level agreements. Predominantly working with Autodesks AutoCAD software I also use various other sources of data to create/maintain technical drawings for the operational sites. Also work with the GIS system that is utilised within the company and Excel spreadsheets to keep a clear, defined records of the current status of each drawing. Show less

I worked for one of the top map publishers in the country. I worked within the Drawing Office where I was one of the Cartographers responsible for drawing new street maps, and also revision of current publications. I was required to work for other people in charge of schemes, and also be in charge of schemes. This means that I had to be able to take instruction from colleagues, but also give instruction to other people, sometimes senior to me. I had to be able to liaise with other departments to ensure that all the relevant data is collated and that the publication is out in the shops on time. As well as these duties I was also responsible for keeping all the building plans up to date. These included the Fire Plans for the Fire Department and Health & Safety, and also the Electrical Plans for the building when any changes were made. I was also responsible for the DVD archiving. This involved the transfer of all the files that are sent to the printers for each publication, to DVD so that we had a current database of our publications. Show less

I worked within the civilian branch of the Military Survey

Within this job I was a Field Researcher and also a Cartographer. Much of my time here was actually spent out in the field collecting the required information for the maps to be completed. This included Street names, Hotels, Places of Interest, etc. This was then compiled into the maps back at the office either by myself or one of the designers. A lot of the work that was done here was for The British Tourist Authority.
