Reporting to the VP of Marketing, the main role was to align and inform business strategy with current/future technology. This required a longer term view of the organisation’s strategic position with an assessment of current capabilities and future opportunities. This was a global position, across all business segments of CPI. Reporting to the VP of R&D, this was a lead role of a department that I created and introduced to CPI, in order to create innovative new product concepts, leading large diverse teams of highly experienced and skilled engineers and providing in-house industrial design globally. With a close link to strategic marketing, the key function was to create marketable products that aligned with the business strategy. Taking those concepts through ideation, prototyping and testing to eventually be passed onto the New Product Development team. Reporting to the Engineering Director, I was responsible for creating product architecture for all new products under the ‘Money Controls’ brand; as well as managing the mechanical design team. In this period I created a new cash handling product, which secured a lucrative contract with a large blue chip company. I then led the development team from concept through to production.

In this period I invented a new way of sorting coins, which resulted in the world’s best selling coin recycler. With total cumulative sales in 2020 at ~$350M. This technology is a key source of competitive advantage and is still being utilised in new solutions today.
