A senior Human Resources Generalist with extensive experience managing the full range of human resources disciplines including staffing, staff relations, pay and benefits, job evaluation, performance management and evaluation, organization development, wellness initiatives, health and safety, human rights, workplace conflict resolution, harassment investigation, mediation, facilitation, training, and coaching.Specialties: investigation, mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching, personal development training.My story:I began my Human Resources career with the Federal Government after graduating with honours from a 5 year Bachelor of Commerce program at UBC. After working in a few different HR Specialist roles in Ottawa (Training, Job Evaluation, HRIS) I obtained my first HR Generalist role with Agriculture Canada in Vancouver. I went on to work with a few different Federal Government departments in Vancouver as a generalist before taking care and nurturing leave when my daughter was born. I began my self-employment as a harassment investigator, mediator and trainer on a part-time basis while raising my daughter as a stay-at-home dad. This practice grew into a full-time role over the years and led to my decision not to return to the Federal Government at the end of my leave. I was primarily motivated to pursue this line of work because of my fascination with conflict and the many ways in which communication breaks down in organizations. Over the years I obtained certification as a mediator and executive coach, and developed considerable expertise in Non-Violent Communication. I found this invaluable for resolving workplace conflict, and for conducting respectful investigation interviews with employees who were often in pain and/or angry about their workplace experiences. Along the way I developed an interest in adult development as this seemed to me to be an unseen variable in most workplace conflict, and I have studied it extensively.
