Operations technician on the EtAc plant (Ethyl Acetate) Using a mixture of ethylene and acetic acid to create Ethyl Acetate by reacting one another together in 4 reactors. Ethylene is brought to the plant at 70 bar and using a let down station the pressure is dropped in 2 stages to 15 bar. The ethylene is pushed around the process by a centrifugal compressor. Using seawater, the caverns are created by injecting seawater at high pressure into the cavern which ‘leaches’ out the salt and the pressure forces out brine. The roof of the cavern is protected by a blanket of nitrogen to stop areas being washed out and to shape the cavern.
