Founder, Contract Product Design And Development Engineering
Current• Emerson Corporation - Participated with an multi-functional team designing Severe Duty Knife Gate Valves in both Class 150 (285 psi) and Class 300 (740 psi). Project scope included all common sizes in both classifications from 2 inch through 48 inch. This project included the design of large stainless-steel castings with a "family look" as well as heavy duty fabricated and machined components.• Water Safety Corporation - Design of plastic injected molded water filtration components and systems. This was a team effort with the clients Engineering Team. Challenges on these projects included thermoplastic pressure vessels requiring NSA Certification and Non-linear Finite Element Analyses.• Pentair Valves and Controls (formerly Tyco Flow Control) – Contract design work on large (24” +, Class 300) valves. These valves are used for pipeline and plant service and must meet Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes. Optimum configurations are determined by the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to check solid models against requirements.• Blac-Rac Manufacturing, Inc., Boise Idaho - Designed and prototyped two models of locking tactical weapon racks, one manual and one electronic. Manufactured and field tested prototypes. Adapted designs to better meet end user requirements as they evolved. Completely documented both designs with revision control; established a part numbering system; and produced supporting graphics for brochures, a website and, instructions. • Windwise Turbine, LLC, Portland Oregon – Modeled a VAWT with carbon fiber composite lifting vanes for FEA evaluation, CFD optimization and manufacturing.• Coal and Biomass Gasification Research – Ongoing since 1990: design, research and economic evaluation of gasification equipment for use in gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and associated fuel conversion processes (i.e., Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis, Methanol Synthesis). These systems convert biomass, coal, and refuse into a clean combustible gas.
