Asia-Pacific Region

I conduct school visits to ensure the quality and integrity of MYP (Middle Years Programme) implementation in the Asia-Pacific Region. This involves analysis of school-specific documentation and three or four-day intensive school visits where I assist in conducting interviews with school stakeholders.

Asia-Pacific Region

I facilitate workshops for teachers in schools in the Asia-Pacific region. These workshops covered all areas of the IB MYP (Middle Years Programme), which educates young people from the ages of 11-16, but focuses specifically on Mathematics Education.

I led several grade levels within the department through unit development/planning, the sourcing of tools and strategies, refinement (and/or creation) of assessment tasks, and moderation of those tasks upon their completion. In August 2018, I became Head of Mathematics and was able to take our curriculum work further as we prepared for the new DP Mathematics courses. I'm proud of the work we are doing in improving the way in which our formative assessment provides information for us and for students to take their work further.I motivate positive school change through my involvement in the Timetable Committee and support of departmental initiatives for promoting Mathematics. Working specifically on the portion of the exchange where students from Branksome Hall in Canada visit Branksome Hall Asia in Jeju, our team developed an interdisciplinary study of sustainability by investigating wind energy in teams to design, construct, test, and iterate their own turbines. Students used design thinking strategies to research turbines, develop prototypes, implement innovations, test their ideas and make data-driven adjustments. Students reflected periodically using a team blog and presented their final work formally and in an informal showcase to the entire secondary school.As Head of Department, I led and supported department members in implementation and development of MYP and DP Programmes, with a focus on unit planning and on assessment task development. I facilitated collaborative curriculum development as we revisited and refined scope and sequence to allow for smoother transition between year levels and introduced Standard and Extended streamed classes. I fostered student access to and interest in STEAM through a Math Club and through the implementation of Canadian Mathematics Competitions.Outside the classroom, I facilitated our Community Interaction student team to teach English language at Moseulpo Children’s Center and directed our Peer Support student team to provide relationship-building skills to sixth grade students. Together, we established the first MS wide Orientation Program and expanded the Grade 6 Induction to more comprehensively assist them in their adjustment to technological and organizational expectations of Middle School. We established the first Student Led Conferences and expanded this program to add more support for students to more genuinely reflect on their learning journey. I guided interdisciplinary curricular development and coordinated Grade 6 Week Without Walls, guiding teachers to make more authentic links that enriched our work with the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. All of these initiatives were made possible through the hard work of the approximately 15 grade level teachers working under my direction to support approximately 90 students in the grade level.In co-curricular activities, I established and coordinated Habitat for Humanity (HFH)-partnered Service Learning Program (SLP), leading two weekend trips to Vinh Phuc and one 6-day trip to Hai Duong.
