An ongoing position with the society as a freelance Graphic Designer, working on the design of layout on special publications, beginning with 'A Short History of the Royal Marines' in 2002(Second Edition 2004, Third Edition 2007). Curently working on all new special publications, as well as designing new editions of the most popular current publications.

My main role was as a book cover designer, working from initial concepts through to final approved artwork and the preparation of digital files ready for printing. As the Senior Designer, I liaised with the editorial department and authors at an early stage to establish the design specifications of a given title. I also managed the work schedule for the design department and monitored the progress of out-of-house illustration work to ensure quality control and that work was delivered on time. This included approving and formatting of interior imagery, the design of maps and diagrams, as well as the creation of some illustrative material myself. I was responsible for the interviewing and hiring of new staff for the design department, website administration and the preparation of imagery for uploading to the Athena website. IT Support/Network Administrator (purchasing, installing and maintaining of all office equipment) was a supplimentary role.
