In 2015, we ran a process to recapitalise IWS. This was in an effort to build out our team, upgrade our tech-stack and to drive revenue growth. We successfully closed this transaction within 3 months by way of private equity. This not only allowed us to execute on our high growth strategy, but also introduced some amazing people into our organisation. This 6-year period would see IWS: - Reinforce its position as the only organisation who could deliver an end-to-end Rostering, Payroll and Bookkeeping solution throughout Australia and New Zealand; - Continue to add highly impressive organisations to our stable of clients (such as Nike, Laser Clinics, Subway, Red Roster, Oporto and Zambrero); - Upgrade all of our internal systems (including the development of our own proprietary platform);- Employ 70+ team members across our Australia, India and Sri Lanka offices; - Demonstrate a highly scalable business model. In 2021, having successfully executed our recapitalisation strategy, we were subsequently acquired by ASX listed Payroll and HCM provider PayGroup (ASX:PYG). PayGroup provide payroll and HCM solutions in over 80 countries and proved a perfect fit for IWS and our rapidly growing customer base. Partnering with PayGroup enabled IWS to start supporting customers on a global basis. For example, we very quickly helped one of our largest customers expand into the UK, Singapore and Canada shortly after the transaction had been completely. This acquisition represented 5 x growth in business value from the recapitalisation we completed 6 years earlier and delivered a significant return to shareholders.

After the grind of building out our initial customer base and bedding down strong recurring revenue, we set our mind to consolidating the mess that tends to come with operating a lean start-up for so many years.We had become the premier provider of cloud-based rostering and payroll solutions in Australia and so we focused heavily on ensuring that our people, processes and systems put us in a position to scale. It was at this point that we decided to introduce Bookkeeping into our solution and also expanded into New Zealand.

We started with the simple idea of developing a solution that would help small business owners better manage their people and their payroll. With very little initial capital, we boot-strapped and fought our way through to achieving a strong proof of concept, a handful of loyal customers and a small recurring revenue stream. The following years would see us continue to reinvest in building out a high quality, robust solution that was unlike anything else in the market.
