I have been a professional photographer in a variety of fields since leaving school in the early 80’s. I work with a wide range of cameras – both old-fashioned film types and the latest digital systems. I have taken pictures from aeroplanes, from the front of a tall ship crashing through huge seas and from the lip of an active volcano. I have photographed a charging elephant, Tibetan nomads, and the biggest mountains on earth. My main area of focus now is the landscape and people in their own environment. And increasingly I am turning my attention to fine art - I still love the traditional darkroom process. My practice has evolved through the years to show the world as I find it – sometimes tough, wild and dirty, but always beautiful and always worth the effort required to get there. I believe that my main skill is not in teaching technical details, but inspiring people, young or old, to share my enthusiasm for photography and to open their eyes to what is around them – both their wider community and the micro world beneath their usual gaze. Curiosity is a powerful tool.
