Architect and Head of Campus Planning and Design at the University of Bristol: Head of Service, design lead, critical friend and custodian of design quality for all major projects within the capital portfolio. It’s been a long journey as I wanted to be an architect since the age of 8. Graduating with first class honours and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Bath, I trained in three of the UK’s leading design studios for a decade where I helped design and deliver three ambitious cultural projects funded by the Millennium Commission: The Earth Centre, Manchester City Art Gallery and the 50th anniversary refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall. I then took a fifteen-year detour into writing, design advocacy, and teaching. This included ten years with The Architectural Review magazine as Senior Editor, and five years as Programme Manager at The Architecture Centre, developing skills as writer, critic and exhibition curator. In parallel with this I was appointed as Teaching Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Bath, teaching design across all year groups and developing and delivering History Theory and Criticism courses for first and final years students.Over the years I have initiated many successful collaborations and have been invited to work as consultant critic and curator for RIBA, Royal Academy, and British CouncilI returned to practise in 2016 following success in international open design competition for St Mary Redcliffe Church in Bristol. While there I helped win and then led Purcell’s Reimagining Wordsworth project from stages 1-3, masterminded the winning bid with Jamie Fobert to secure the Inspiring People project at National Portrait Gallery, and won new commissions at Milford Haven and the Wilson Gallery. I also initiated, commissioned and edited the practice’s first monograph in over 70 years of practice. In April 2019 I re-launched my consultancy business ArticulateArchitecture 2.0 shortly before being appointed as Architect to the University of Bristol Campus Division in June 2019.Author of a number of publications, my last book, Contemporary House India, was published by Thames and Hudson in July 2021.
