30 years of continuous service in the Architectural Ironmongery (AI) / Lightside Builders Merchanting have given me a well rounded understanding of Operational, Commercial and Sales Management.Looking back on a successful BM career, my first position was a 5 person operation under Thomson Brothers; under Wolseley management I was responsible for the former King & Co. Head Office in Darlington, With 14 staff and an annual turnover in excess of £1.2m, I oversaw restructure, refurbishment and finally relocation as the business moved to George Boyd and Saint Gobain. As Estimating Manager it was my job to manage enquiries from our external sales teams (both AI and Doorset focused) and from our network of 13 branches, to our 4 person team of estimators. This meant implementing management protocols and developing an ERP with CRM to enable a full suite of reports to be produced and presented. I overhauled presentation standards, eliminated duplication and late return of quotes and began a process of upskilling both in terms of commercial knowledge and the essential IT skills required to manipulate the diverse data formats received from our customers and stakeholders. A casualty of head count reduction prior to the sale of Jewson, I took a position with ATF Supplies where I successfully migrated a number of accounts. Regrettably, this position has now ended, Always Operationally focused, my roles allowed me to explore many interests, including Health & Safety, ISO14001 Compliance and Education & Training. Committed to lifelong learning I recently passed the Institute of Operational Management Diploma course with Distinction. Passionate about supporting employee welfare, respecting diversity and engaging at all levels of the organisation, my ethics aligned well with both Wolseley and SGBD and I enjoyed a long and happy career, representing the brand with customers & suppliers and seeking opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from the wider group including Build Center, Jewson, Plumb Center, CTD, British Gypsum, Ecophon and others. Intelligent and articulate, but quiet and reserved, I tend to observe and take time to work out my place in the world and how I might contribute best to tasks, discussions and projects.
