Foresight Land Services
Pittsfield, Massachusetts
Rob Hoogs has been a Principal of Foresight Land Services since 1980, President from 1990-2014, and Chairman since 2014. Foresight Land Services is a full-service firm offering Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, Land Planning, and Environmental Permitting to a wide variety of private and public clientele. The firm is renowned for its "Green Principles" of sitework design and construction. Based in Pittsfield at the center of the beautiful cultural Berkshires, the firm has completed many creative, challenging, fulfilling, and successful projects. Rob heads the firm's Civil/Sitework projects, including many of the luxury resorts and hot spots in the area: Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, Cranwell Resort and Golf Club, Shakespeare & Co, etc. The redevelopment of these "Cottages" from the Gilded Age posed special challenges: adaptive re-use of historic structures and landscapes; new construction to make the sites financially viable; preserving the historic character, public vistas, 'great lawns'. Rob helped write the zoning bylaws to allow these projects, then helped plan and obtain the necessary permits. Rob has been project manager for the Civil/Sitework design of many recent institutional projects:- Miss Hall's School, Pittsfield- Berkshire Medical Center: surgical suites, emergency room, parking garage, medical office building, ambulatory surgery center; - Rice Silk Mill: adaptive reuse of historic old mill buildings into affordable housing; - Iredale Mineral Cosmetics: adaptive reuse of old school building into Class A headquarters; - Berkshire Montessori School: new school building and campus, LEED for Schools criteria;- Hillside Affordable Housing: new ten unit affordable housing project on steep site with shallow bedrock; mitigating stormwater was a particular challenge. In the public sector, Rob has been project manager and principal site planner for many Streetscape projects in historic downtowns of Lee, Lenox, and Great Barrington.
