An effective and efficient support worker successful at engaging and motivating "difficult to reach" clients (who have/have had issues with drugs and alcohol) and support them to access education/training/and employment opportunities. Initially took on this role as a pilot project and due to success in the first year this project has grown and has received continued funding and the project has developed into a borough-wide service employing two additional team members. The continued success and need for this service has resulted in this provision recently being granted a further two years funding. All of the clients I support to access education/training/and employment have substance misuse (drug and/or alcohol) issues and many have further barriers to progression including criminal records, lack of employment experience, few or no qualifications, mental and physical health problems, low self esteem and low motivation. A firm believer in the principle that everyone deserves a second chance I endeavour to support my clients to abstain from substance misuse by providing access to opportunities to access employment. This role supports the recovery agenda, helps to reduce re-offending rates, benefits the wider community and helps recovering drug/alcohol users to integrate back in to society and lead meaningful and positive lives.
