Leader of a team of scientists and engineers undertaking commercially focused new materials developments, in particular in biopolymers and proteins for the personal care, industrial and textile sectors. Technical lead on a jointly funded government and New Zealand wool industry funded programme to develop new uses for crossbred wool.

Leader of multidisciplinary product development teams in fields of medical devices, personal care and nutrition. Responsible for all laboratory, pre-clinical and clinical development leading to new products commercialised in all three fields. Global quality and regulatory affairs responsibility for medical devices and regulatory responsibility for personal care finished products. Successfully commercialised new products developed through partnering with global top 10 companies in the field as well as establishing extensive international distributor networks and selective licensing arrangements and as a result established the foundation revenues for the company.

Foundation scientist of start up company Keratec, created to commercialise high value keratin protein products. Lead inventor on all technologies, responsible for all science aspects of business and leader of new product development programmes. Established keratin as an ingredient in global brands with multinational partner companies. Project managed development of 4 medical device products through concept, development, manufacturing, clinical studies and FDA and CE approval.

Foundation member of The Biopolymer Network, a multi institute collaboration focused on developing a biopolymer based industry from New Zealand biological resources. Secured $15M government funding and led program to develop biobased speciality chemicals for the global personal care industry.

Responsible for 30+ staff in multidisciplinary Applied Science division of a private sector research institute, specialising in wool, keratin and textile science and engineering. Secured government and private sector research contracts to maintain $5M revenue streams for Applied Science division.
