There are few buildings in Lincoln that can provoke more nostalgic affection than The Ritz Cinema & Theatre on Lincoln’s High Street, both due to the appeal of the older and more charming generations of cinematic masterpieces that were shown at the venue and the realisation it may well be Lincoln’s finest architectural example of a classic Art Deco building.Many of Lincoln’s old cinemas were unremarkable and quickly declined into nothing but distant memories of a building that once was, but The Ritz has remained and stood the test of time. Laying dormant for well over a decade the building houses the dust covered remains of the original cinema on the upper floors and is slowly coming to life once again.The renovation project was started back in 2012, taking over the empty shell of the upper floors and slowly transforming it back into a working cinema and theatre. I joined the team of volunteers working to get the building back into shape in October 2013, and for the last 3 years have been helping run the cinema on a day to basis with the Pete Genders, the driving force behind the project from the very beginning. With our team of loyal volunteers, both past and present, as well as our many supporters over the years, we have brought life back to a disused and desolate building.

Started from the bottom as a general team member, worked my way up through Supervisor to Team Leader until the cinema closed and we transferred to a new site. Started at new site in October 2001 as Administrator, and eventually promoted to Cinema Manager.Responsibilities included everything from basic team member duties dealing with customers, retail, ticket sales and cash handling, up to and including all management responsibilities including payroll, stock control / ordering / auditing, office administration, internal audits, health & safety responsibilities and audits, complaints processes, supplier and head office queries and invoicing and all other aspects of the cinema business
