BE MINDFUL OF THE ROLE SKILL, LUCK, AND RISK PLAY IN THIS COMPLEX AND NOISY WORLD. AVOID RUINS. BIGGER THE EGDE, LARGER THE BET. LOWER THE RISK, LARGER THE BET. 4. BE PATIENT, OPPORTUNISTIC, FLEXIBLE, RATIONAL, DECISIVE, AND HAVE A LONG TERM ORIENTATION. 5. BE GRATEFUL AND HUMBLE WITH ANY OPPORTUNITIES. 6. GUARD YOURSELF AGAINST HARMFUL EMOTIONS, BLINDSPOTS, AND BIASES BY BUILDING A SOUND INVESTING SYSTEM. To put these six principles in action, you only buy, at a discount, high-quality businesses that have a solid asset value, stable earning power, a good management and profitable future growth. Be realistic and conservative with how you include the expected value of a company’s future earning growth in your valuation. These principles are likely to help you invest with a reasonable margin of safety and a healthy mindset — when this margin of safety is highly probable (after you’ve done your due diligence) and substantial (often rare), you will have the mental fitness and choice to bet heavily and decisively without taking on much risk.—— Our Decision Making Principles ——1. Assume you are wrong. Be less wrong.2. State your decision problems carefully and thoroughly, acknowledging their complexity (e.g. noise and uncertainty) and avoiding unwarranted assumptions and option limiting biases. Test key variables/assumptions efficiently.3. Always know the true reason why you are making a decision. Don’t confuse your fundamental objectives (i.e.,Decisions on your beliefs and principles - stable and not sensitive to bayesian reasoning) with your means objectives (i.e., Decisions on your strategy, process, adaptation, and exception — changeable and sensitive to bayesian reasoning)4. 80% of your results come from 20% of your best efforts or decisions. Make fewer and better decisions. Minimize mediocre decisions. Avoid poor and ruinous decisions. Overworking beyond your best work hurts your results because the law of diminishing returns. As Buffett said, “wait for the fat pitch”5. Don’t let history (past experience or data) constrain your decision making, let it inform your decision making.5. Act if on balance the benefits greatly outweigh cost and risk. Evaluate your best alternatives thoroughly before a decision moment arrives. Act decisively with a margin of safety. If you cannot decide quickly with sufficient data, the decision is too hard for you.
