Rob Leonard Email and Phone Number
I am currently Computing Lead in a middle school in Newcastle. The role does not just involve teaching; I coordinate delivery of the subject, liaise with trust schools and manage hardware (we operate 1-1 Chromebook devices for our students) and I am admin for our learning platform (Google classrooms and suite of tools - Google for Education). In addition to this I co-manage our web filtering system - SENSO. I have been in education for more than thirty years now, having worked as an adviser, manager of a school sports partnership, assistant headteacher (inclusion), head of year, PE lead, classroom teacher and various subject leads. Currently I teach computing, science and physical education. My passion is technology and computers. This kick started a journey of discovery during the first COVID lock down. Finding our learning platform was not fit for purpose, I remotely set up and trained staff and pupils in the use of Google for Education. The spin off following the pandemic has been to seek out and fund 1-1 devices for our students and utilise all of the best parts of this technology in the classroom. As a result I have delivered significant amounts of staff training and have a wealthy of experience in managing and delivering learning platforms (particularly Google, however I am very well versed in Microsoft 365, as I run this platform in parallel).I am actively interested in the use of media platforms in schools and set up a YouTube channel during lock-down to stay connected with our communities during this time. This lead to me being nominated for a Pearson National Teaching award, receiving a commendation as a local lock-down hero. The channel continues to date and I am currently handing over the reigns to our students in order to teach them how to use social media in a positive and enhancing manner through their own weekly show.Currently I am looking to get more involved with social media through podcasting and vlogging about my favourite topic - Food!
