My research focuses on systems sustainability and broadly covers two main disciplines: food / agriculture and healthcare. My work considers resource usage and uses environmental accounting techniques to estimate, track and benchmark processes and products.In the food and agricultural sector, my interest is the interaction between agriculture, horticulture and the environment. This includes:- carbon and environmental footprinting- mass and energy balances - greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture - ecosystem services - composting and anaerobic digestion- the application of organic materials to agricultural land - nitrogen balances in agriculture- resource use efficiency in agriculture- analysis within the food supply chainIn the healthcare sector, my research focuses on carbon footprinting and life cycle assessment in:- diet- renal and dialysis- delivery of mental care- surgery- hospital level analysis- PPE and other consumables- pathology and laboratory procedures- radiography
