A graduate of the Ontario College of Art in 1985, I specialized in art direction but my passion was illustration. Ultimately I decided to pursue commercial illustration as opposed to a cushy Art Direction position. I enjoyed the freedom illustration gave me and the money was pretty darned good. My major client was Labatt's. I combined my art direction/illustration skills to create some very successful campaigns, especially with the university/college crowd. The Labatt's Blue's Brothers campaign ran for 2 years in a variety of visual applications. I then became a freelance sports artist cartoonist at the Toronto Sun Newspaper and The Hockey News Publication. I spent 16 years doing weekly assignments for both publications. In 2002 I decided to concentrate on, what I would call, new opportunities. I would follow trends or see what was missing and try to fill that void with something interesting. In my newspaper years, I enjoyed sitting at the table in the Bullpen having the editors give me stories and interesting info in order to formulate an idea... which needed to be ready by press time. I still work that way. I will sit with my client and pick their brain and come up with something quickly. Call it skill, talent... whatever... all I know is that after so many years of meeting crazy deadlines, you know the meter is running and you have to learn to adjust to that environment. That's the juice of what makes me tick I guess.Specialties: I surround myself with people who are technically skilled in order to execute projects properly, be it computer or photography. I may be a Fred Flintstone surrounded by George Jetson's these days but I know how to get things done quickly and affectively...with a little help from my friends.
