Road Safety Panel (Chair)
I was initially asked to serve on the Road Safety Panel during my time on Council which assists in the delivery of the institutions objectives by delivering the road safety aspects of the Business Plan set by the Board. I was subsequently asked to take on the role of Chair.The Road Safety Panel, is committed to delivering and disseminating “Good Practice” in the field of Road Safety to the profession and members of the general public and to assist Governments, Local Authorities and other organisations in delivering road casualty reduction in the United Kingdom and where possible ensure that other Member States throughout the EU benefit for UK experience.The Panels current key deliverables are:• Comment on Government consultations.• Dissemination of the new Road Safety Audit Guidelines.• Run an annual Road Safety Award that promotes best practice.• Assist in the development and management of the Society for Road Safety Auditors.• Running regular conferences on appropriate road safety topics.As part of these roles I regularly responded to government consultations on National policies and strategies and work closely with government departments for England N. Ireland, Scotland & Wales as well as bodies such as DfT, PACTS, Road Safety GB and ADEPT.
Yorkshire & Humberside Branch Chairman
Following our AGM in April I was elected as Chairman to the branch for a second time and I am pleased to say the Branch continued to grow and produce an excellent calendar of events with some of our initiatives being recognised as best practice at National level. I currently chair the Branch Awards sub-committee and the Sponsorship & Fundraising sub-committee along with serving on the Annual Dinner Dance, and Annual Programme of events sub-committees.

During that time I also served initially on the Network & Infrastructure Management Board then subsequently on the Learned Society and Technical Strategy Board which in turn overseen the technical panels and task groups of the Institution, which deliver the institutions objectives. As part of this role I also sat on the one of these Panels namely the Road Safety Panel (now Chair) acting as the link between the Board and the Panel ensuring the Board is kept informed on the work of the Panel and ensuring the Panel is delivering the Business Plan set by the Board. Over and above this I also served on the Audit Committee ensuring the institution is being operated in accordance with best practice, within the law, with financial probity, and in accordance with the requirements of relevant regulators.

As the Head of the Civil Engineering and Built Environment Disciplines I was accountable for team P&L accounts and performances against annual plan (circa £9m). I provided a focus for all the diverse disciplines to maximise efficiency, grow and broaden capability. I lead effective deployment and allocation of resources to projects and facilitate exchange of resources to meet project requirements and provide opportunities for developing and upskilling staff.

Since 2012 I was the Design Manager for A-one+ in Area 7 (a Joint Venture between Colas, CH2M Hill and Costain), working on the Motorways and Trunk Roads in the East Midlands. I managed 9 teams of Highway & Structural engineers developing sustainable improvement & renewal solutions to enhance performance of the network. Previously (from the commission start date of July 2009) I was the Programme Development manager which mostly involved looking at the condition, safety and congestion issues of the asset across all portfolios and identifying problems which are then taken through the HA's value management process to establish a priority then through the bidding process and ultimately into the forward programme.My background is in Civil and Highway engineering beginning my career on site contracting for Costain, then following a spell contracting overseas working on a Government project in the Seychelles I moved into Local Government formerly at North Yorkshire then City of York Council for nearly 10 years, eventually taking up a consultancy type role in the MAC community back in 2003.
Associate - Traffic, Safety & Studies Manager
In my time with Scott Wilson/ AMScott I was responsible for the day to day mangement of the section as well as the identification, value management, design and delivery for all schemes under the Highways Agency's LNMS programme (ie Safety, Congestion Accessibility etc). Budget responsibility was in the region of £4 - 8 million per annum (£1million of which in fee).In addition to this I undertook some business development work for Scott Wilson in the Yorkshire region and was named as the Traffic Manager in the Kirklees consultancy framework.
