St Ives Uniting Church

St Ives Uniting Church is a vibrant, outward-focussed worshipping community. St Ives UC has particular interests in arts, seniors & life-long learning programs. My key contributions to the development of the St Ives congregation include:1. Creating our series of Landmark Services. These are Sunday services to provide people with landmarks to navigate life.

In this role I had responsibility to oversight the professional development of the 400+ Uniting Church ministers in the NSW & the ACT. I also had a national role, being the national coordinator for Transitional Ministry and Intentional Interim Ministry training on behalf of the US-based Interim Ministry Network. Since being in this role, I continue to be.

Lecturer and postgraduate supervisor in diverse areas reflecting my expertise, including the practice of ministry and New Testament, especially ancient Greek.

North Parramatta (Sydney)

I began teaching at UTC as a small group tutor, then visiting lecturer in other people's courses, then ultimately designing and teaching whole courses in Biblical languages, NT background and exegesis. I was a lecturer and postgraduate supervisor in diverse areas reflecting my expertise, including ethics, the practice of ministry and New Testament.

During this time I led a paid team of youth worker, choir director, organist and office assistant, as well as a great group of committed volunteers. We worked hard together to respond creatively to changing age & ethnicity demographics. One key achievement was establishing a university student household which continues to flourish more than a decade later.

This was a three-part role, with responsibilities as chaplain to Wesley College, minister of the congregation that met in the College chapel, and Uniting Church Chaplain to the University as a whole. I developed creative approaches to worship and a program of engaging workshops on life and faith issues. I was also active in the wider university in areas.

Intended To Be Jayapura, Irian Jaya / West Papua

I was appointed to be a lecturer in New Testament at the Sekolah Tinggi Teologi (Theological College) of the Gereja Kristen Injili (Evangelical Christian Church) of Irian Jaya. Although unable to obtain a visa and take up this position permanently, while waiting:I undertook training in cross-cultural awareness.I gained enormously from visiting Irian Jaya.
