Property and space Utilization on UK Campuses

UNNC is a branch campus of the University of Nottingham, providing a western liberal arts style education to 8,000+ students and generating an annual 100m GBP turnover with 900+ staff from 70+ countries. Member of the University Management Board with responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, IT and Estates Services, Strategy and Planning, Library Research and Learning Resources, and Sport. The portfolio has approximately 125 professional and support staff and an annual operational budget of 20m GBP. In addition to the executive responsibility for these departments, the role is also Chair of the University level committees for Space Management and Equipment Investment.Achievements• Delivered the budgeted 4% annual surplus whilst increasing the diversity of income sources and investing in more, and higher quality, academic talent and facilities• Procurement and implementation of an Oracle Finance system including mobile expenses app, BI module and interface with Tableau for analysis and data visualization• Executive lead on the construction of two campus new buildings, a 25k m2 Library and 25k m2 Business School and Executive Education and incubator centre – total investment 40m GBP• Design and implementation of a new compensation and benefits package for all 900 staff. Changes include the assimilation of all staff to 2 pay scales from 5, introduction of reward flexibility (spot awards, market allowances, cash equivalence for accommodation and home leave flights), creating greater equity between local and international staff benefit packages• Introduction of an integrated planning and budgeting cycle and process, including a tuition fee pricing strategy and financial sustainability framework.• Improved procurement controls enabling 20% cost savings on major frame contracts covering outsourced infrastructure management, furniture, and construction projects• Restructured the IT and Estates departments yielding a 10% staff cost saving
